ReelHeART Launches 8th Season with Top 3 Feature Screenplays Written by Women-

ANNOUNCEMENT

ReelHeART_International_Film_FestivalReelHeART International Film Festival Launches

8th Season with Top 3 Feature Screenplays Written by Women!

Every year ReelHeART makes a new entry into its film festival history book. This year we’re making “Herstory.”

Toronto, Canada – June 06, 2013 Female Screenwriters will officially open ReelHeART 2013.

Since 2004, known by thousands of filmmakers around the world as “The Filmmaker’s Film Festival”, ReelHeART has always brought something special to the field of 80 film festivals in the city of Toronto.

Always Premieres  .  Always Mentoring .  Always Original  .  Always Indie

Started as a new initiative 2 years after ReelHeART proper began, there’s always been a first every season in our Feature Screenplay competition.

  • Former cop and attorney, Alaska born Joe Acton submitted 2 scripts and both found their way into the Top 3.
  • Joe later turned one into a modern day serial for McClatchey Newspapers in the US
  • Joe’s other script went to the high profile CAA (Creative Artists Agency) in Hollywood
  • Angeleno Jason Coleman off his win became a juryman for the Hollywood Golden Globes
  • CBS News Correspondent with Brian Williams and “The Daily Show” “Moment of Zen” Don Teague brought his first feature to ReelHeART and won 2nd Place
  • 2nd Place Winner, Torontonian Ramona Bailey received agent representation
  • 2011 brought back the NYC based screenwriting team of George Sanders and Shawn Curran who submitted 2 features and both found their way into the Top 3
  • Their script, “Bird Brained” is currently optioned by Paramount’s Robert Evans Company
  • In 2013, our Top 3 Feature Screenplay Winners are Women!

Executive Managing Director Shannonn Kelly explains, “ As a female and a screenwriter this moment in 2013 warms my heart. We started our Feature Script competition with the mission to offer screenplay entrants what was lacking in terms of coverage and recognition in other script competitions at the time. Except for the competition run by Gordy Hoffman, you had to virtually pull teeth to get coverage from festivals. When they did give it to you it came with an added exorbitant fee. I have to tip my hat to Carl Liberman. There’s a reason he was the founding literary agent at The Characters Agency. Every year he makes exciting picks with his Top 3 choices. Consequently, something great happens to our writers: Agent representation and scripts being optioned by Hollywood heavy-hitters. Not bad for the #5 festival out of 80…

The 8th Annual ReelHeART International Film Festival runs June 27-30, 2013. Short and Feature Screenplay Competition rehearsed-cast-to-type Live Reads will be held afternoons and evenings with a Special Opening on Wednesday June 27th. Films will start their premieres June 28th and run through the weekend, with Closing Night Party at 9:00PM Saturday June 30th.

Gritty Exposé Club Nightlife Doc – We Run Sh*t! Opens ReelHeART 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ReelHeART International Film Festival8th Annual ReelHeART International Film Festival launches with a BANG!

Five Promoters — Five Events — Big Names — One Problem — Zero Cash”

WE RUN SH*T!

Canadian Premiere at ReelHeART 2013!

Toronto, Canada – May 01, 2013  - – “We Run Sh*t!” a never before seen exposé into the deceitful and darker side of nightlife entertainment will officially open ReelHeART 2013.

We Run Sh*t!” shines a graphic spotlight on the underbelly of the Miami club scene in recession fueled America, where a tough, often brutal and a drug and sex entrenched dark side rears it’s ugly head to provide club goers “entertainment”.

Characters in “We Run Sh*t!” are selfish, greedy, egotistical, lazy and cruel, constantly shifting blame, while our heroes try to stay two steps ahead, but seem to fall 10 steps back at almost every turn.

We Run Sh*t!” is produced by 2010 Toronto mayoral candidate James Di Fiore who is also an investigative freelance writer and hip hop artist.

Co-Directed by ReelHeART 2006 “Best of Fest” Winner Scott Storm, who says of his documentary, “In many ways, the 2-year process of making the movie and working out all the kinks took its toll on all of us. But like any creative endeavor, if you can survive the war, the victory is in seeing the finished product up there on display and watching how the world responds to what you’ve created.”

Asked why ReelHeART 2013 is opening with such a dark “cloak and daggers” documentary, ReelHeART Executive Managing Director Shannonn Kelly explains: “For years, audiences and filmmakers thought we were the “nice festival”, screening films with Pandas and soulful red-headed Vegans. I always explain that sure, ReelHeART means heart, but it also means guts and soul. When audiences see our films, they’re so often moved, emotionally shaken or highly entertained when they get out of a film. They seem astonished. That’s what we’re going for — Feeling something. We want filmmakers and filmgoers to get all their organs involved with ReelHeART films. Your Heart, your Brain, and your Gut. Feel something. And talk about it to everyone you see. In our 8th season, we feel “We Run Sh*t!” says this perfectly for us.

The 8th Annual ReelHeART International Film Festival runs June 27-30, 2013.

Short and Feature Screenplay Competition rehearsed-cast-to-type Live Reads will be held at night with a Special Opening, Wednesday June 27th. Films start their premieres June 28th and run through the weekend, with Closing Night Gala at 9:00PM Saturday June 30th.
