Street people receive Your Donations of Warm Coats, Hats, Gloves at Xmas

Every Xmas our ReelHeART International Film Festival Director collects warm clothing and cash donations to personally distribute warm clothing to people living on the streets of Toronto or New York.

• This year, she will be in Toronto, handing out clothing and warm accessories on Christmas Day

If you can spare a Cash Donation this time of year, please help out with $5 or $10 dollars by going directly to our PayPal account below.

We co-sponsor a Xmas Open House every year to physically collect clothing that is new or gently used. The rest of the scarves, hats, mittens, gloves and socks are purchased at the same stores every year who offer us clothing at a greatly reduced price.

We know this economy is tough, but if you can spare a small amount of money, we’d really appreciate you showing your Warm Heart in 2011.

It’s been a whirlwind of activity since official notifications went out March 18-20th to our new crop of Filmmakers for the 7th season of ReelHeART International Film Festival, June 20-25, 2011.

We scaled back the amount of films this season to add more multiple screenings. In total, ReelHeART will screen 92 films over 6 days and nights.

Our Opening Day and Closing Night films are stellar examples of what can be achieved in the world of independent filmmaking.

**Official Opening Day Film ReelHeART 2011** from Mumbai, India, ‘Land Gold Women‘  directed by Avantika Hari is the story of Nazir Ali Khan a devoted to his family man and professor at the University of Birmingham whose greatest love in life is his 17-year old-daughter Saira. For her future, they both have different plans and this heartbreaking discovery leads to betrayal and gut-wrenching tragedy.

**Official Closing Night Film ReelHeART 2011** from the USA, ‘How I Got Lost‘, directed by Joe Leonard is pretty much seamless from beginning to end. Using two rather significant dates for New Yorkers as dramatic pinpoints, (September 11, 2001 and the August 14, 2003 Blackout), this bittersweet drama explores the relationship between two buddies who are in the midst of turmoil and are trying to find happiness and meaning in their lives.

These are only two of the many engaging dramas, laugh out loud comedies, stimulating documentaries and insider views on musician profiles, including a film produced by Rob Barker of the ‘Tragically Hip’ and Patrick Stump of ‘Fall Out Boy’ that you’ll be seeing at ReelHeART.

If you can spare 5-15 hours a week, we’d like to hear from you. All positions are volunteer and offer exceptional work experience. Previous film or arts festival or festival office experience will be an asset. We welcome film buffs, seniors citizens, high school students, interns and co-op students who can dedicate themselves to their tasks during their shifts.

We seek volunteers between the ages of 15-105 from right now until June 30, 2011 in various capacities listed below:

• Bag Stuffers, Office Organizers, Clean Up Crew for Festival Office and Theaters
• Driver Assistants – Assist in picking up visiting filmmakers and guests, must have flexible schedule
• Drivers (Clean abstracts, 25+ years of age, Paid Contract Position)
• FOH – Front of House (FOH) Main Program
• (Must be willing to work entire week, Contract Paid Position)
• FOH – Front of House (FOH) Venue Program
• (Must be willing to work entire week, Contract Paid Position)
• FOH – Tickets Sellers, Ticket Proofers (Theater & Venue Screening)
• FOH – Ushers, Ballot Takers, Door Persons, Hosts (Theater & Venue Screening)
• Gophers (Office, Home Office, PLUS–Theater & Venue)
• Photographers (add to your portfolio)
• Print Coordinator to catalogue and organize films promotional materials and exhibition copies, liaise with filmmakers regarding their films and promotional materials
• Promotion Assistants to Plan and Host Events (experience required)
• Street Team: Captain: Coordinate Teams to Hand Out and/or Deliver Programs, Postcards and Posters
• (Must be able to “Lead by Example” and like to walk and be outdoors)
• Street Team: Hand Out and/or Deliver Programs, Postcards and Posters(you must like to walk and be outdoors)
• Tech Coordinators to run tech tests at Innis College and Venue Program at Southern Accent Restaurant, liaise with filmmakers regarding their films
• Technicians to run films at Venue and assist with Print Coordinator
• Videographers (add to your portfolio & reel)
• Volunteer Coordinator (Must be able to “Lead by Example” and Motivate)

All positions will receive a ReelHeART T-Shirt, Movie passes (cumulative for shifts completed) and free pass for two to one of the ReelHeART parties that includes food and beverages.

Volunteers will be reimbursed for their TTC * travel and meals* (*when applicable)

All volunteers that work during our submission, sponsorship and pre-festival season (September- May) DOUBLE their passes to movies and parties-

Exceptional Volunteers will be eligible to receive a bursary upon completion of their term

A “Token of Appreciation BBQ” wraps the volunteer season every year.

Notifications will go out via GROUP EMAILS in each category. Make sure you have this email set in your address book; otherwise our emails will wind up in your spam or deleted folder.

Entrants from WAB will also receive their status via the mail system WAB has in place.

We will not personally email filmmakers who did not get into ReelHeART 2011 who submitted via WAB unless we would like to hold their film for 2012.
